I really am sorry it's over. Hooking Up seemed to pop up unannounced on ABC just a few fleeting weeks ago and it has already vanished — like a musty summer rain shower in Oahu. (It rolled in and whooshed out almost before I could get wet.) I could've watched that thing every week until the cows came home. I eat it up. For me, it's like watching looping snapshots of the episodic romantic ordeals of my life. Each vignette is like grabbing onto an exposed nerve ending in my being and yanking it... every phrase, every glance and every hope and betrayal and anguish and yearning and fearful flutter of the eyebrow, I've heard and seen and felt sometime, somewhere before. Deeply. All the noisy clutter are all old friends. The relationship saga — or pit — is unending but unchanging. Hooking Up feels all too close, happily. (Full Story)

With Amy, this last week, there was good news and bad news. The good news is that she dumped her spacey shag partner, David, who, while expressing some small hint of serious commitment intent last week (read: agreed to stop "shagging" for five minutes), came back from his "business trip" to Costa Rica ready to relapse back into some quasi-teen hip-hop stupor — this from a 27-year-old "corporate consultant," mind you — showing off his manly mettle by yacking with someone on the phone in some funkadelic gangsta code and then braying like a drunken lunatic in a karaoke bar. Apparently David's new intent, once arriving back in New York City, was to have Amy observe this juvenile pathos with her own eyes and come to some (hopefully) dreadful conclusions. It worked. Whatever happened in Costa Rica, the marriage Hydra went up in flames. (Full Story)

Hooking Up: Amy and Maryam Through The Looking Glass (More)
Fairly interesting ABC show which follows women in New York City while they attempt to find male companionship through online dating. What is also compelling to watch is how, once again, feminist political forays from the '60s and '70s have wrought a climate where the women behave much like men (or, if possible, more aggressively!) but yet still find themselves bamboozled on how to tame and move beyond the male sexual mindset and into the realm of commitment.
