Sunday’s two-hour finale of Survivor: Guatemala -- The Maya Empire delivered the largest audience for a "Survivor" finale since "Survivor: All-Stars" in May 2004, according to Nielsen preliminary affiliate based ratings for Sunday, Dec. 11. (Full Story)
For the past five years, Survivor has left a lasting mark on television culture, kicking off a whole new genre of shows (which we call Reality TV) that Americans have warmly embraced and welcomed into their homes. Survivor has had its ups and downs, with some seasons more outstanding than others, and its heaping of clashing (and binding) personalities every round. And although there is always those one or two people who stand out, we also recognize the winners, the people who actually came out with the million dollars. You've probably heard about or seen a few winners since they've won, but even for those who are less memorable, here's a look at what they've been doing since they won their season, because you have to wonder: where are they now? Every dog has his day. And Guatemala's skittish master of disaster, Jamie, had his on Night 27 of his madcap adventure (and spiraling descent) into neurotic paranoia, borderline insanity, and — one would think — corroded, lacerating stomach ulcers. After his torch-snuffing, Jamie gaped back at his ex-tribe and hollered, "Blindsided! Nice! Now that's how you vote somebody out!..." And then he turned to go, snorting, "Later..." with a disgusted, smirking huff thrown in for good measure. At least now with a hot shower, some hot food and a decent bed, provided in his plum Jury quarters, Jamie's frantic struggle to hold his head above Xhakum's always threatening swamp-like quicksand — and his own personal demons — will ease somewhat. He may relish a few wet burps, a shave, enjoy a good night's sleep, and hopefully wake up almost normal. I pray. Whatever that may be. At least, maybe, until he stumbles upon Bobby Jon. (Full Story)
"Eating And Sleeping With The Enemy" -- One castaway’s inability to perform at the Reward Challenge blows it for the entire team, on Survivor: Guatemala -- The Maya Empire, Thursday, Nov. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. (Full Story)
The recently consolidated tribe is now called Xhakum. That's Yaxha and Nakum squished together, figuratively! It is supposed to be one big happy family now — this according to Jamie, who gave up his fourth place slot in the Reward Challenge food line with this caveat: "Sorry about yesterday, guys... we're one tribe now. I'm sorry I didn't see that sooner." Sounding majestic, almost spiritual, Jamie's highly advertised intentions may come from the right place, though the egalitarianism of Xhakum is but a sham. There is definitely a power hierarchy pulsating throughout the tribe, even among the "magical six" — as Bobby Jon refers to them. The meager scraps of respectability picked over by the three remaining ex-Yaxha members (Bobby Jon, Danni and Gary) are simply those offered by the Xhakum czars to these few poor, rootless souls awaiting their own preordained destruction.
