Well, we’re now at our last final. We hope. It’s Mary versus Kula on the long boards and Jen versus Molli on the short boards.
So Jen and Molli go at it first, and it is a close race. Both girls are going after the prize, and pull out some amazing waves. (Don’t you love all my surf talk.) So the long boards go, and Mary comes out with a huge first wave. Kula pulls of some nice ones, but it is not as close as the last race was.
So then we cut to Danielle, and she starts to give the results. She goes to long boards, and we cut to both girls thinking the other one won. Jen is declared the winner, and I think she doesn’t even believe it. I was stoked about this, because Jen has been a good surfer this whole time, and she deserves it. For the long board, we find out that Mary is the winner. I was also excited about this because Mary was a good surfer, always winning contests. The girls both win new boards, and some plaques, and the best thing was that everyone seemed excited that they won.
At this point, there is still 15 minutes left, and I can’t figure out what MTV is going to do. Oh wait, we get to see how the girls did with the prizes. Awesome. First off is Mary. We see her in her house in Ventura. Kula is coming to visit. She gets there, and Mary talks all about the 10 day trip on the boat. She went to Costa Rica, and there were 10 other girls, and from the names and pictures, I think most of them were Roxy Girls. She said it was a fun time, and then shows Kula the video. The scenery is amazing, and she looks like she is even surfing OK. The two girls then go off to surf.
So then we get to see Jen at the Fuji event. She gets there, and Danielle meets her at the airport. She is excited to be there, but seems REALLY nervous. I would be to. Some people will spend most of their career trying to qualify for one of these wildcard spots. She has dinner with the rest of the girls, and that seems to go ok.
The next morning, Danielle wakes Jen up for her qualifying heat. She looks like a deer in the headlights as she boats out there, and it shows as she puts her board together the wrong way. She goes to listen to the rules, which does no good, since she can’t concentrate at all. She drops in for her qualifying heat, and all she can think about is not getting last. It’s not looking good at first, as she is the last girl to get a wave. She gets one, finally, and takes it huge, placing her in third, above Veronica Kay, from Northshore. Yes. She is pumped, and can’t believe it. She then finishes off by talking about how much she has grown in confidence, and has come to love herself. The great thing is, so has everyone else.
So the surf is over, and I hope MTV does another one. Until then, I’ll be reviewing the drama and Mama’s meatballs at “The Restaurant” and waiting my time until the models and American Idol return.
