So it’s result time, and this ought to be interesting. We get to see the Pop Idol hosts first, and despite the foreheads, I am starting to like them. I understand what they were trying for with Ryan and Dunkleman on the first American Idol, it just didn’t work.

They then go in to explain the voting process. Each contestant will get the maximum points from their country, and then everyone else will get points based on how they do in that country. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. I still think that Norway’s Kurt has a great chance in this, and could give Kelly a run for things. They give a recap of the performances from last time, and then wait…before the results, we get to see former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Right after I stopped laughing, I realized they were serious. I would say more about her performance, but I had to change the channel. It was too much to watch for me.
So you think we could get the results, but no, we get Sir Elton John first. This I could stomach a bit more, but really come on, let’s get to it. And then they finally start out. Each host or hosts from the country will read the results from that country on the big screen. They start with the UK votes, and I’m not surprised that Kurt is first, Kelly is second, and then the list goes on. The only other thing I do remember is that Alex was towards the end, and that was good. They go through more countries, and Kurt is first, Kelly is second, and then the Nirvana guy is third a lot. Surprising on that one. I also would have thought that Guy would have been doing better so far.
The US results were the ones I was impressed with. Diana, the Pan Arab winner, placed third, to Kurt and Heinz. It’s good to see that there are people out the voting on musical talent and ability, because Diana was good. Very different, but good.
I do say this even with the next one, the Pan Arab voting, where Kelly was sixth and Alex, the polish one, won that country. Were we really watching the same show? Come on people, let’s rethink this one.
As the voting progresses, Kurt is looking more and more like the winner, with Kelly second. As we get to the last country, South Africa, Kurt wins again and is crowned the World Idol.
This was a good thing, and I liked it, even though I am a hardcore Kelly fan. Kelly was already a world star, with record breaking singles in multiple countries and tours and everything. People know who she is. With Kurt winning this, it really does prove what Idol is all about. Someone with a major talent getting a chance to find fans and fame. Kurt would have never got this chance otherwise, just like without American Idol, Kelly would have never had the chance. So even though my girl didn’t win, we did have a winner. |
