Emotions ran ramped as the remaining six contestants vie for the last position in the final five to compete for the full ride, $240,000 scholarship. While Melissa, Scott, Liz, and Milana are relaxing, having already obtained spots in the final five, Davis, Gerald, Jeremy, Amari, Alyssa, and Max know that they must worker harder than ever before to acquire a spot.

During a Captain’s Quiz, on the amendments of the Constitution, Davis is the only contestant to get all the questions right, and he coincidentally clocks in first. Amari is second, but has two wrong answers, and everyone else has more than two wrong, so Amari is given the captain position along with Davis. During a spotlight on Alyssa, the fiery, undeveloped coed states that she does not think Davis deserves the full ride scholarship. The committee is in agreement, citing that his confidence may be his downfall.

At the competition, the gang must debate whether gay marriages should be legal. Melissa, Scott, Milana, and Liz are eliminated from the day’s competition so that the committee can zero in on the remaining six. Davis selects Max and Gerald for his team and Amari picks Alyssa and Jeremy. Davis’ team must debate in favor of gay marriage and Amari’s team must do the opposite, which proves difficult for the team, especially Jeremy. Each team spends time researching their topics to find evidence in support of their views. Both teams work extremely well together, but Jeremy just cannot seem to put his heart into it. At the actual debate, both sides open with powerful statements. Team Davis is eloquent and articulate but Amari and Alyssa prove to poor public speakers. Both sides present rousing ideas, but Team Davis is awarded the win, giving Davis his third shot to be in the final five. During the interviews, the committee struggles to agree on which two contestants should be sent to the admissions showdown. The group does not even find out until they actually arrive at the showdown, ensuring that all six study for the American President-theme competition.

It is later revealed at the showdown that Amari and Alyssa will accompany Davis on the quest to obtain a spot in the final five. Jeremy, Gerald, and Max are crushed; Jeremy even gets a little weepy. The three prove that their knowledge of American presidents is vast as they answer questions correctly left and right. Davis is asked, “Which two presidents were assassinated in the 20th century?” and he replies, “Garfield and Lincoln.” However, the correct answer was “McKinley and Kennedy,” and Davis is disqualified due to his confusion of the centuries. He is flabbergasted to say the least, realizing that he blew his third chance at being in the final five. Amari and Alyssa fiercely compete back and forth but when Alyssa misses a simple question by naming the wrong Roosevelt, Amari wins and is given the last spot in the final five. The group congratulates Amari who is grateful that the committee had faith in her three times and allowed her to participate in the showdown. Davis phones home and explains his ordeal to his father, still shocked and dismayed that he has missed his chance for a full ride scholarship.
