Tonight the journey ends, where Liz, Amari, Milana, Scot, and Melissa will compete in the final showdown for the prize of a $250,000 scholarship. Loosing the final showdown might not hurt as much considering they each have already banked a $50,000 scholarship.
And the final five are as follows:
Elizabeth, 17 - Buhl, Idaho
As an only child growing up in the rural town of Buhl, Idaho, Elizabeth had to find something to do to pass the time. What she found was math. A wholesome teen who has exhausted her high school math curriculum, she is now studying discreet math in a separate program. With a 4.0 GPA, Elizabeth understands that life in her small town will soon be a fond memory and that the opportunities she craves lie far beyond Idaho's borders. This is a small-town girl hungry for life in the big city. She hopes to attend an Ivy League school and pursue a career as a doctor in family practice. In addition to her schoolwork, Elizabeth has a passion for performing and studies classical piano.
Amari, 17 - St. Charles, Missouri
Even with an early acceptance letter from Harvard University under her belt, Amari still feels the need to achieve. Never one to rest on her laurels, Amari's infectious good nature belies her unrelenting work ethic. Constantly pushing the envelope of excellence, this high school senior from St. Charles, Missouri has a 4.0 GPA, near perfect SAT scores and is the Chief Marshal of the National Honors Society at her school. A lover of languages, she is currently enrolled in Spanish, Ancient Greek and Latin, in addition to numerous Advanced Placement courses. Amari is passionate about issues of equality and human rights. Raised by a single mom, she hopes for a career in public policy.
Milana, 17 - Fresh Meadows, New York
After emigrating from Russia with her family at the age of three, this dynamic young woman hit the ground running and hasn't stopped since. Currently enrolled at the rigorous Bronx High School of Science in New York, Milana maintains 98.31 GPA and is fluent in Russian, English and Spanish. Already certain of a career in the medical field, she is motivated by her desire to help those less fortunate than herself. Milana spends much of her free time doing stem cell research in the neurosurgery department of Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, where her real passion flourishes. A true believer in the power of scientific discovery and advancement, Milana hopes to attend a renowned medical school and, in her own ambitious words, "find a cure for cancer." |
