As being an annual visitor to Key West, I feel I am the perfect person to write for this season of the Real World. But enough about me, lets start from the beginning. We learn as the season begins that the cast is stranded in Miami because a violent hurricane is ravishing the small island of Key West. The cast includes, Zack, Jose, John, Tyler, Janelle, Paula and Svetlana. Three cast members; Janelle, Zack and John, meet on Mallory Square Pier and are transported to the house in a speedboat. Tyler and Svetlana meet in Sugarloaf Key, about 100 miles north of Key West and are transported to the house in a seaplane. Jose picks up Paula from a Miami hotel and drives about 140 miles to the house.

Once the cast is all accounted for, like in all previous seasons, room selections are assigned. John and Zack, Tyler and Jose and Paula, Svetlana and Janelle are the assignments. John and Zack seem to hit it off well as they appear to be frat boys at heart.

In my honest opinion, it appears to me as if Svetlana is the girl who needs attention. On the first few nights there appears to be an instant connection with her and Zack. Although she has a boyfriend back home I would like to see the two hook up to add some drama to the show. In another case, the boys want to go fishing but Svetlana wants to go swimming. So what does she do? She complains and whines for people to go with her but to no success.

About halfway through, Tyler receives a call from his friend Fitch. Here are Tyler’s first impressions of the roommates.

Janelle - A half black, half white female who he gets along with the best.

Jose - His roommate who has the sweetest heart in the world.

John - A meathead; nicknamed Johnny Bananas.

Zack - The cute Jew from Washington with a “Jew Fro.”

Svetlana - The straight up Russian Mafia girl with jewelry to show for it. And I quote “Her boobs go on forever.”

Paula - The anorexic girl.

After the commercial break we return to learn the cast has gone to a bar named Rick’s. Everyone is having a good time until Zack decides to confront Paula about her eating situation. All hell breaks loose on the cab ride home and Paula goes into some kind of hyperventilation. This brings attention to the cast and they are concerned about Paula’s condition. They are unaware of why she had this spell but they believe it is from her childhood.

This season is shaping up to be the best to date. From first episodes alone, the Las Vegas season comes close but this episode has made the best first impression on me to date

Until next time—
Adam
