This show has never been more difficult to judge. Previously on “The Amazing Race”, there was a balance between good and ugly. Funny sound bites, shocking behavior, beautiful scenery, and death-defying stunts all served as fodder for my easily made judgments. Now, I have nothing to go on. And I’m sorry CBS, but this episode was a complete snore. Granted, the opening moments at the slavery monument touched me a great deal. And then what happened? Let me think because the rest was so forgettable that I had no choice. I forgot.

OK. I forgot everything but a couple of things. I remember that witch Kendra, possibly the most offensive woman-model ever to appear. And of course, the winner of this week’s first place luxury vacation! I hope it’s luxurious enough for her because she loves to frolic in the lap of luxury. She does so love the finer things! The finer things are what make Kendra’s luxuriously fine life worth living. Without croissants, the world is just ghetto Africa. The woman has no depth, no humor, no heart, no soul, no clue, and the thought of compassion or humanity has just simply never occurred to her. The problem is, as much as I loathe her, I could care less about her. That scowling, ungrateful, spoiled, shallow model is equally as boring as the rest of these forgettables.
I’ve made unspoken exceptions to Gus and Hera and Don and Mary Jean. They know it. But I will say, I wouldn’t mind if Hera like told a joke or something. Is it possible that Mary Jean was the funniest person on this show? I loved it when she got mad, but now that she’s gone- I mean… Show’s a little flat. So, I’m hoping that Hera will pull it together and maybe just start with… maybe start with basic irony or something.
And from a legal stand point- well, the battery was obvious. And hopefully they will be needing a divorce lawyer. You know- time penalties are administered all the time on this show for violating the rules of the game. But what about the common law? A man batters his wife and nothing is supposed to happen? He intentionally shoved her. And since battery is an intentional harmful or offensive touching to another person, it appears he did just that. Add in the complexities of their marriage, now it’s domestic abuse. We should consider that she obviously suffers from battered woman’s syndrome. And finally, I think we could get him on intentional infliction of emotional distress. His behavior is certainly extreme and outrageous by societal standards, and his screaming at her is clearly done with the purpose of upsetting her. Her nervous breakdown was hard to watch. But it wasn’t hard in a fascinating way. It was in a Jerry Springer sort of way. And I just know that CBS does not want to continue going in this direction. That would just be a crime.
Final judgment.
